This tool converts KMZ files to GeoJSON, making them easier to use in Mapbox, Leaflet, ArcGIS, Felt, Avenza, Caltopo, and other mapping tools. Both formats use only latitudes and longitudes - also known as geographic coordinates - so the conversion is straightforward. Both KMZ files and GeoJSON files can contain many types of shapes, and we provide an option to generate one big GeoJSON or several smaller GeoJSONs classified by shape and name.
How to use this toolKML and KMZ, traditionally used in Google Maps & Earth, don't always work well with other mapping tools. GeoJSON, a simple text-based format, is more widely supported. For even more information, see the FAQ!
