KMZ to Shapefile converter

Convert KMZ file to Shapefile

Converting KMZ to Shapefile

There is one big hurdle when converting from KMZ to Shapefile: KMZ files can contain many different types of shapes, while Shapefiles can only contain one type of shape. This tool will create a separate Shapefile for each type of shape in the KMZ file. The tool produces a ZIP archive containing all the Shapefiles, which you can download and use in ArcGIS, QGIS, and other mapping tools.

How to use this tool

What are KMZ and Shapefiles?

KMZ files are used in Google Maps & Earth, but they don't always work well with other mapping tools. Shapefiles are a common format for GIS data, but they can be tricky to work with. In particular, a 'shapefile' is not actually a single file, but rather a directory of related files. This tool makes it easy to convert KMZ files to Shapefiles, so you can use them in ArcGIS, QGIS, and other mapping tools. For even more information, see the FAQ!
